DECEMBER MEETING

Monday's meeting will be the last one of 2014. We have all kinds of things planned and it will be an informal day.  There will be a Raffle, Quiz, and an opportunity to take part in a small workshop.  There will be refreshments provided during the morning.  We are hoping that there will be plenty of entries for our 'Holly and Ivy' challenge.  Bring along any works in progress that you are anxious to get finished and anything that is finished that you would like to share with us.

Thank you for your continued support throughout the year and we look forward to welcoming you back in 2015.  We have a varied programme arranged and of course it will be our Exhibition in June.

If we don't see you on Monday Happy Christmas and 'Carry on Quilting'.

OCTOBER``

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE DATE FOR THE NEXT MEETING IS 13TH OCTOBER.  THIS IS A CHANGE IN THE ROUTINE AND IS THE SECOND  MONDAY OF THE MONTH AND NOT THE USUAL THIRD MONDAY.

We have FAY MAXWELL coming for the day to talk to us and give a workshop entitled 'Webs and Wheels'.  She describes this as a workshop of doodling with threads and stitches.

The requirements are that students bring along a variety of threads including embroidery threads, tapestry wools, cotton perle etc. in as many textures and colours that are to hand and small pieces of fabric to stitch on, or you may work with a limited palette of your choice.  This is a hand stitching workshop so machines are not necessary, just usual sewing kits.

This should be a fun, experimental workshop and the cost is £15 for non members.  £10 for members.

The meeting starts as usual at 10 a.m.  There will be the usual coffee and notices and any Show and Tell items to begin with followed by Fay's workshop.

There will be a break for Lunch (please bring a packed lunch).  Tea and coffee will be provided.

We are all looking forward to this workshop as Fay is a great teacher who always brings lots of lovely things for us to see and gain inspiration from and we hope that you will join us.

NEW TERM

Our new Term starts on Monday 15th September 2014.  This is our Annual General Meeting when everyone is welcome to attend.  This day is also an ideal opportunity for prospective new members to come and see what we are all about and to mingle with members and ask questions before committing to joining the Group.  Membership fees stay the same at £20 for the coming year.

We are also happy to welcome Frances Taylor to the meeting and introduce her to the Group.  Frances has recently moved to Dorchester and is a long arm quilter working from home.  She will be bringing examples of her work to show us and will talk to us about her work.

The day starts at 10 a.m. and after a cup of coffee and chat we will get down to the business of the day.

We hope as many of you as possible will be able to come.

PROGRAMME FOR JUNE.

Penny Armitage who is a member of the Quilters Guild of the British Isles and Contemporary Quilt Group will be coming to Hardy Quilters for our next meeting in June.  She will be giving a talk in the morning and a mini workshop in the afternoon.  The workshop  is entitled 'Flowers in my Garden' and she will be showing us how to make a selection of flowers which can then be appliqued on to a prepared background.
This promises to be a fun workshop and we are looking forward to her visit to us.  Penny now lives in North Devon but she has spent time in Dubai where she ran a very successful quilting group so her talk promises to be entertaining.
Hope you will join us.  Cost for the morning session is  £3 and workshop is  £5 for members and £10 for non- members.

MEGA CATCH UP

It has been such a long time since I wrote on this Blog and for that I apologise.  The main reason for this is that I keep getting technical problems with Blogger and keep receiving messages that an unauthorised sign in has occurred in all parts of the world!!  The latest this week has been in Massachusetts.  This is very tiresome and means that I have to keep changing passwords just as I have got used to the current one, so I must admit I lost my patience and left the whole thing alone for a while.

Last month we had a workshop with Kathryn Chambers.  This was a great day.  Kathryn's work is simply amazing and she is a very generous teacher.  I will post photographs below of her work.  Everyone who came to the workshop thoroughly enjoyed it but I don't know how many have completed what they have started!!

The other bit of news is that Del Whitfield one of our members and our Treasurer won Judges' Choice at the South West Quilters Exhibition at West Point, Exeter, with her quilt 'Black and White and Daisies all over'.  We were very excited when we arrived to look at the Quilts and saw that Del's had a Rosette on it.

Kathryn Chambers beautiful work.

We are running a Bus Trip on Tuesday 13th May to Midsomer Quilters at Midsomer Norton.  We shall be leaving Weymouth from Southill Shopping Centre Car Park at 9 a.m.  The first stop is Midsomer Quilters shop for a bit of retail therapy and have lunch there.  ( Bring your own packed lunch) .  Tea and Coffee provided but not  food.  Then on in the afternoon to Radstock Museum to the Exhibition of Quilts.  Leave Radstock at 4 - 4.30 p.m.

Kathryn Chambers has some of her work in the Exhibition.

Members travel free - Visitors £10
Everyone pays for their Entrance to the Museum and Exhibition.

We hope as many of you come as possible.  We have a 35 seater coach to fill so there is plenty of room.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy New Year to all our readers.  A bit late I know but I have been ill for quite some time with a wretched virus which completely wiped me out.  But it is all systems go now for our New Year of meetings.
We kick off the Year with a guest Speaker - Carol Cruickshank.  Carol is local to us.  She lives at Portland and is a Textile Artist.  She is coming along with some examples of her work and will be talking and explaining her process from start to finish.
We are looking forward to her visit and hope that there will be a good audience for her.
See you there!!!
